About our Curriculum

At Millennium we have created a hybrid from the traditional 7 hour day and the open landscape of virtual online education to create something we call “Virditional” Education. Virditional education allows students to receive more credits in a more collaborative manner while placing the focus of the education more into the hands of the students.  This blended approach combines the best elements of online and face-to-face learning. It is likely to emerge as the predominant model of the future and to become far more common than either type of educational style alone. This type of curriculum is well suited for the motivated learner who seeks challenges and a relevant education

The Set Up

Students physically meet with their instructors on a rotating 2 times one week, 3 times the next week schedule for all core classes.  Online collaborative projects will be held in between classes using blackboard® and major portions of the learning will be done through these online sessions. All students will have a daily collaboration hour where students will congregate in our large“home” technology lab one hour a day to work on collaboration projects, meet with advisors and counselors or get help with their on-line projects from their teachers.  There will be an open policy during this hour where the student is free to meet with whomever they like to accomplish their daily objectives. The last hours of the day will be dedicated to the Project Based Elective curriculum.  Students, each semester will select a multidisciplinary topic of their choosing.  The student will sign up for 3 electives that will meet with the instructor(s) 5 times a week.  The student will be at the center of their projects design, overall development and implementation throughout the year.  The students will present on the progress of their project weekly and have to defend the merit of their project before a self-selected panel of professionals and educators at the end of the year.

The last part of the curriculum at Millennium High School is fact that all students will receive a state of the art laptop to go with the state of the art facilities. Student will be required to take, in their first year, the introduction to technology class.  This class focuses on the practicality of the technology available to students, proper usage procedures, ethical and safety aspects of the Internet and technology, proper information seeking, and basic application studies.    Student will also be in charge of his or her own digital high school tracker.  This on-line tools allows students to track graduation credits, class grades, scholarship availability, and most functions through the guidance office.
